Mantilla Monday~ My very first Giveaway!

Just because it's Monday...
Just because I love wearing my mantilla...
Just because I think Joy makes the best crocheted mantillas and chapel veils...

I decided to have my first giveaway!

My friend, Joy, from O Quam Gloriosum blog, crochets the most beautiful and delicate mantillas and chapel veils and sells them at her online store: Crocheted Mantillas & Chapel Veils by Jjoy

One lucky visitor will win a lovely full length black mantilla. Just like the one shown below!

Some things I love about Joy's mantillas:

#1 The length. I have longer hair and it gives me full coverage. Though, as you can see in the photo above, it looks very nice on shorter hairstyles as well.

#2 It stays put. Because of the material, the weight and crocheted design, the mantilla stays on your head without having to secure it with pins. Now, of course, if you have a very active wiggly little one in your lap you may have to secure it like you would other mantillas. But I have found that compared to other designs that this crocheted mantilla will not slip or slide around as most others will.

# 3 It holds up to lots of wear and is easily rolled up and carried about in a purse or diaper bag. Because of the design you don't have to worry about it getting wrinkled.

#4 It's delicate. Even though it can be rolled up and stuffed in a diaper bag it is still so, very delicate and feminine.

Plus, along with the mantilla, I am giving away a copy of The Chapel Veil, Symbol of the Spouse of Christ by Elizabeth Black and Emily Griswold! This is a lovely little booklet discussing the veil as a symbol of the identity and vocation of a woman, and the veil and the Eucharist.

To enter this giveaway please head on over to Joy's Shop, check out her other fantastic designs and then come back and leave a comment here for your chance to win.

Comments will be open until midnight on Monday, October 18th. The winner will be chosen with a random number generator and announced on Tuesday, October 19th. Be sure to leave your email address, or have it linked in your profile, so that I am able to contact you.

Update: Please, only one comment per visitor. Thank you.

Good luck and God bless!!

  2. During extreme weather I'm a "stealth veiler." I wear a straw hat in summer and a stocking cap in winter. I tried a polyester lace mantilla, and it slithered all over my dandelion-fluffish (though still mostly brown) hair. Total distraction. This might be the answer.

  6. This is the first time I have seen your blog! Thanks to Fr.Z's blog :) I am a mom of seven, and have wanted to take up the practice of veiling. I laughed when I read Naomi's comment about "stealth" veiling, I have done that too! I would wear a scarf to mass, and then pull it up onto my head. I have full, curly hair and have problems getting anything to stay put on my head, but my biggest hesitation is that NOBODY ever wears anything on their heads, and I have this creeping feeling that I would be making OTHERS feel judged. Kind of silly, I know. Veiling is something I have wanted to do, something I believe in. Humility is such a foreign notion in the world I inhabit. I would go as far as to say it is a virtue that engenders hostility, even. Someone needs to have the courage to publicly espouse the pursuit of humility, why not me?
    Peace,

  8. Kelly, thanks for the opportunity for the mantilla. Joy's work is beautiful. I'm in an FSSP parish now and wearing a 45-year old, falling apart veil. It's sweet, used to belong to my Mother, but with each washing, a little more fraying at the edges. I'm making a note of Joy's site, and when I can afford it, will be investing in several of her creations. Just lovely. Found you via Fr Z btw. God bless. JanetinSanDiego jhoward@nethere.com

  9. They are beautiful and tasteful. I have never worn a chapel veil because I don't like the excessively lacy ones I've seen. This is much more becoming. Just as a suggestion for Joy, it would be nice to see a picture of each of the styles on the front page of her site.

Thanks for the opportunity to enter your contest.

  10. Besides being beautiful, these veils remind me of the ones my grandma used to crochet. She made the smaller, on-top-of-your-head type in various designs. I don't know what happened to them when she died. Joy's bring back good memories of her.

    Peace, Theresa

  26. I found this from Fr. Z's blog. I dabble in crocheting but I always put it down for long periods of time before mastering anything. I've thought about learning to crochet a mantilla myself. The black one I made for myself out of curtain lace is lovely but it's a slider - I must always pin it down. Joy's mantilla's are lovely. I especially like the white and copper ones (I usually wear a white one.) Thanks for this chance to win one! My e-mail is lirioroja2 at hotmail dot com

  61. I love chapel veils so much that I am the only person wearing one: it is makeshift, just a piece of Chantilly lace cut out. I wear it to daily Mass at the Cathedral here in Mobile, AL. But I have many women approach me after Mass, and longingly say things like, "Oh, I wish that custom hadn't left the church," or "I wish I had the courage to wear a veil." It makes me a little sad, but I refuse to give this gift up. I am so blessed to have an understanding confessor, who has never directed me to stop this heartfelt desire to honor God like this. I am alone here, but it is worth it. I would truly love an honest-to-goodness chapel veil to wear, but God's will be done.

  67. Well, if I win it will surely be a sign from God that I (and the other young moms) should be wearing a head covering at Mass. We are divided at church right now - the older moms (i.e. those with not-so wiggly children) and their teenage/college age daughters wear them, and the younger moms like myself do not wear them. If I start covering, I'm certain I can convince my friends to do the same (funny how peer pressure still influences us). Of course I will direct them to your site. A lovely selection! kharrison80@gmail.com

    Blessings for doing this give-away!

  94. All I can say is absolutely stunning and beautiful. I love how simple and elegant the veils look. I do prefer that to the more gaudy looking veils that really pop and make one look at them. I am a simple modest stay at home mother and homeschooler. I recently lost my only chapel veil and have been borrowing from friends whenever I go to church. I have one very long veil with gold woven thread which I as a modest woman feel it is better for decoration in the house than to wear to Mass. My mother got it in Fatima I believe. I am Portuguese and my mother would get me something every year from Fatima. My Great Grandmother witnessed the miracle of the sun and I am very devoted to Nos Senhora de Fatima. I would consider it a blessing and a great honor to wear one of your beautiful veils.

  96. I have been veiling. I just started to have a strong desire to veil. I feel that it is a non verbal communication of our deep beliefs. And since I believe that the Lord Jesus is truly present in the tabernacle at Church and on the Altar at Mass, than I want to be veiled in His presence. To show Him that I believe in Him. That I want to obey Him. That I worship, love and adore God incarnate, Jesus Christ Our Lord.
