So, why am I careless?
I'm so glad that you asked. ;)
It actually comes from a conversation I had with a man one day while out on some errands. At the time we had 6 children and all of them were with me. He of course took several long looks at us and then approached me. He asked the standard question of large families, "are they all yours?" When I said yes, while cringing while trying to smile charitably, he then said, "Well, then. You're either a conscientious Mormon or a careless Catholic."
I still have no idea why a Mormon would be considered conscientious and a Catholic careless, but regardless, to this man that is what I was. As you can imagine, at the time I was greatly offended by his judgement of me, but I have since gotten over being offended by it. Now, instead, I choose to claim it and make it my own...Why yes! Yes, I am a careless Catholic! If being a careless Catholic means being open to life, then I am guilty as charged. And most happily so. My large brood that God has blessed me with is not only my greatest happiness but will also be my path to salvation in Christ.
"Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.""
Matthew 16: 24
What a beautiful cross I've been given.
I am most grateful.
